U.S. Department of Energy Solar Decathlon Home Page.

This is something to keep on your radar for Fall 2011 (dates TBD).  Every other year a Solar Decathlon is held where top notch colleges and universities from around the world compete to create net zero test homes.  Energy is derived from solar, but the homes feature cutting edge technology that is efficient and innovative.

Schools design and assemble the homes at their respective colleges, disassemble them and then reassemble in Washington DC on the National Mall’s West Potomac Park, on the banks of the Potomac River along the path between the Lincoln and Jefferson Memorials.  Visitors can

tour homes and ask questions and get ideas for what they might like to do in their own homes.  I believe that these homes are auctioned off at a later date.  Past homes can be viewed on the website.

I plan on attending and taking notes and pictures; who knows who we might want to hire and what technologies we should be looking at.  At the very least it’s great to be a part of forward thinking in a time where we must consider energy independence and job growth through the renewable sectors.  See you down there!
